Despicable Me (three) Party: Part 3

I'm still breathing! After a long blog break, I think I'm ready to get back on the wagon...what got me back? A blog feature!!! :)

My party bags were featured over at Moms &Munchkins. Cheryl posted a great round-up of Despicable Me party ideas, make sure you check that post out! Thank you for the shout out Cheryl!

Below I have a bit more details about those fun party bags...enjoy!

Materials Needed:

goggles printed on card stock click for printable file (You can edit this doc. through Word as well to adjust the size if needed)
glue stick
thick black sharpie
blue construction paper
blue marker

Optional: black construction paper

Because you can find party bags in so many different sizes, I don't have measurements for the overalls. I simply placed the blue construction paper under a bag, traced the width and cut out a template. I used that one and cut the "arm holes" out. Make sure you save that first overall as a template to use and trace the rest out before gluing them to the bags with your glue sticks.

Once you have the overalls on, cut out the goggles you printed. Place them on your bag to measure where you want them and cut off the excess ends of the goggles to fit the bag.

Use the glue stick and glue to the top of the bags, leaving enough paper on the top for kids to hold/fold over.

Next, grab your sharpies and draw on those cute sideways smiles, circles for buttons on the overalls and the pocket on the front...if you have time (which you probably do because you're not doing this the night before...like myself) make a pocket shape out of blue/black paper and glue it to the front of the overalls.

voila!

Please comment if you have questions...I know I'm not the best at tutorials, but I will answer all of your questions!

Despicable Me (THREE) Party: Part 3

This is the final chapter for the Despicable Me party. Here are the last little final touches that I added to the party. Like I said before, there were so many more things I wish I had the time to add, there are a million possibilities and ideas with this movie! In the end I'm happy with the way it turned out. I think the birthday girl and her guests enjoyed it too.
Swan Lake thank you tickets, these were all over the table for the kids, next to the tutus for the girls. I found this amazing tutorial here from pluckymomo, along with her pdf file!

Our lovely Tia Mini added these adorable M&M favor tubes to the table along "fluffly unicorn" centerpeices, which sadly I didn't get a picture of :(

Minion Goggles aka minty lifesavers, below them are the girls tutus (Bonus buy from the Dollar Tree!)

Not only is this my favorite picture, you can also see Vic wearing the Gru scarfs I made for the boys. I simply bought a yard of grey and black strped jersey material and cut strips. Since jersey naturally curls it's a no sew project!

Last but not least, this could not have been done without my party minions (and a lot of Starbucks)! Thank you Tia Taco and Cousin Big Hair! :)

Despicable Me (THREE) Party: Part 1

As soon as we saw Despicable Me we were all obsessed. I’m not kidding you! Vic, Vayda and I were all quoting the movie…all the time. It’s become a favorite in the Arreguin household. So if you haven’t seen it, what in the world are you waiting for? You will thank me later :). I was surfing the web and decided that is it, Vayda’s third birthday had to be Despicable Me theme….or better yet, Despicable THREE!
Roarring of course ;) Here's our big 3 year old all dressed up in her "recital" outfit,
just like the girls in Despicable Me.

Invitations:
Here is the final invite I came up with, the original idea was from Plucky Momo, I just added my own little twist.

Party Bags: **blog post for party bags here***
I know there are the official Despicable Me party bags out there but for a ridiculous price and for that matter I only found them on Amazon and Ebay! Since there isn’t very much D3 (Despicable Me) Party items out there I decided to come up with my own party bags. It did take a lot of man hours but I was happy with the way they turned out. I do realize that kids really don’t even care about what their candy comes in as long as it’s there, but come on how could I resist! I had to mentally prepare myself to see them on the ground, torn, trashed and in the garbage…but they set the theme and I was ok with the bag massacres.

To make the minion bags I bought yellow lunch baggies & blue heavyweight paper. I drew out a quick overall pattern to cut out for all of the bags and used the blue paper for those. I found a clear picture of the minion goggles and printed them on white cardstock. Cut those out and glued to the bag as well. With a black sharpie I drew on the minion’s side smirk and free hand a overall pocket and dots for the buttons. Like I said, these did take time but they were fun to make and it seemed like people got a kick out of them, so I would say success :).

Minion/Unicorn Cupcakes:
While doing my party planning research I saw a lot of these adorable minion cupcakes all over the web. So of course we had to try them out!

For the Minions on the cupcakes My Mother-in-law and I halved each twinkie, used black frosting for the goggles and the mouth and edible googlie eyes I found at Michaels. I had the intentions to use brown sprinkles for the hair but ran out of time =\. I think if I wasn't rushing at the park while doing this they would have turned out better, but in the end I think they get the point across, right?

A friend of mine was so amazing and made all of the cupcakes for the party including the “fluffy” unicorn cupcake cake you see above. She really did the hard/time consuming part for me (there was no way they would have been done if it weren’t for her), Thanks again Melissa!

Singing Happy Bday to Vayda! Check out the minions...trying to beat the heat haha

There is much more to come on the D3 party. Keep an eye out for Part 2. Here's a little teaser:
